Print order receipts directly from your phone using a Bluetooth thermal printer. No computer or Ethernet cable needed — just pair your printer and start printing.
Before you start
You'll need:
The Take App mobile app installed on your iPhone or Android phone
A Bluetooth thermal printer that supports ESC/POS (see supported printers)
Bluetooth enabled on your phone
Connect your printer
Turn on your Bluetooth printer and make sure it is in pairing mode.
Open the Take App and go to Settings → Printer.
Tap Set up printer. The app will scan for nearby Bluetooth printers for about 15 seconds.
Select your printer from the list.
Once connected, you'll see your printer name with a green "Connected" indicator.
The app remembers your printer and will automatically reconnect next time you open the app.
Permissions
The app needs Bluetooth permissions to find and connect to your printer:
iPhone — Bluetooth access is requested automatically. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on in your phone settings.
Android 12 and later — The app will ask for Bluetooth Scan and Bluetooth Connect permissions. Tap "Allow" when prompted.
Android 11 and earlier — The app will ask for Location permission (required by Android to scan for Bluetooth devices). Tap "Allow" when prompted.
If you accidentally denied permissions, go to your phone's Settings → Apps → Take App → Permissions and enable Bluetooth (or Location for older Android).
Set paper width
After connecting your printer, choose the correct paper width in Settings → Printer:
58mm — Smaller rolls, common with portable printers
80mm — Standard receipt size, common with countertop printers
Check your printer's manual or paper roll packaging if you're unsure which size your printer uses.
Print a receipt
Complete an order (via Keypad or Items).
On the order confirmation screen, tap Print Receipt.
The receipt includes:
Store name, address, and contact info
Order number and date
All line items with options and prices
Discounts, tax, and total
Amount received and change (for cash payments)
Test print
To verify your printer is working correctly, go to Settings → Printer and tap Test Print. A short test document will print. If nothing prints, check that your printer is turned on and within Bluetooth range.
Disconnect printer
To disconnect your printer, go to Settings → Printer and tap Disconnect. You can set up a different printer at any time.
Troubleshooting
Printer not showing in scan list — Make sure the printer is turned on, in Bluetooth pairing mode, and within range (about 10 meters). Try restarting the printer.
Permission denied — Go to your phone's Settings → Apps → Take App → Permissions and enable Bluetooth (or Location on older Android).
Connection lost — The app will try to reconnect automatically. If it doesn't, go to Settings → Printer and tap Set up printer to reconnect.
Receipt looks too wide or narrow — Check that the paper width setting matches your printer's paper size (58mm or 80mm).
Printing is slow — This can happen if the Bluetooth signal is weak. Move your phone closer to the printer.
